Open Educational Resources (OER)

Open educational resources (OER's) allow faculty and students copyright-free access to educational materials, including many no- or low-cost textbooks.  Listed below are a few of the Resource Center’s favorite resources for finding open textbooks:

OpenStax is a non-profit digital ecosystem serving millions of users per month in the delivery of free educational content to improve learning outcomes.

Free Online Course Materials is a California State University MERLOT collection of over 35,000 open course materials.

Open Textbook Library

Open textbooks are textbooks that have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost. All textbooks are either used at multiple higher education institutions; or affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization.

Google Books

Google Books works just like web search. Google Books locates books with content that contain a match for your search terms. If the book is out of copyright, or the publisher has given permission, you'll be able to see a preview of the book, and in some cases the entire text. If it's in the public domain, you're free to download a PDF copy.
